Welcome to the DoD Executive Lead Free Integrated Process Team Website
The Department of Defense (DoD) is faced with the prospect that many of its suppliers will change from the traditional tin-lead based electronics to the newly mandated lead-free ones. DoD, even though exempt from the legislation, will have to acquire electronic components and sub-assemblies that will be available from the supply line only in the lead free version. Lead-free electronics have potential major concerns with reliability in harsh military environments.
This site contains the latest information generated and compiled by the DoD ELF-IPT (Department of Defense Executive Lead Free - Integrated Process Team).
The ELF-IPT is composed of representatives from both industrial and government organizations who contribute to this site in four major areas of interest to the defense community in lead-free electronics technology and program concerns. Theses four areas are:
- Business Case for Lead Free Investment
- Training and Awareness in Lead Free Issues
- Roadmap for Lead Free Implementation
- Recommended DoD Investment Strategy for Lead Free Electronics
For example, the Roadmap for Lead Free Implementation sub-committee has conducted Gap Analysis that has lead to three specific projects in Lead Free Implementation that will help assure a joint DoD response to this worldwide movement. 'Roadmap and Gap Analysis Project Recommendations'.
Recommendations for DoD or multi-service joint investment have been incorporated into a white paper that can be found at: 'Joint DoD Lead-Free White Paper'.
On this site, you will find a discussion forum addressing new changes in Lead Free Electronics issues and postings of the latest Lead Free electronics developments, A Lead Free frequently asked questions section, Lead Free case studies and papers, as well as tin whiskers studies and tech tips.
Content for this site will be updated as needed, but at least quarterly.
